HALL OF FAME – MALCOLM ANSELL

SHOW HORSE | INDUCTED 2017

There are few people better known in the horse world than Malcolm Ansell, one of the finest producers of young riders, horses and ponies for the last 50 years.

He has ridden, owned or produced hundreds of Royal Show winners, several Garryowen winners, taught top class young riders and continued to do so until he passed away in 2019, aged 78.

Malcolm started producing show horses in his early 20s, and not many of his show ring friends would know that early on he was also a very competitive showjumping rider.

His love of a beautiful horse sent him in the direction of finding show horses and ponies for himself and others.  Hundreds of winning show animals have passed through his stables and many still speak of the fine horses they purchased from him.

Malcolm also gained great pleasure from the ongoing success of his former pupils, in particular that of Maree Tomkinson. When teaching Maree at age 15, he is recorded on video commenting that he felt absolutely sure she would be outstanding, and he has of course been proven right.

Malcolm Ansell was one of Australia’s finest showmen and will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
