FINALIST PROFILE

2021 COACH OF THE YEAR FINALIST

DAVID SHOOBRIDGE

DRESSAGE – LEVEL 2
MEET DAVID

David is an elite Australian dressage rider and highly sought after trainer. His partnership with phenomenal KWPN stallion, 00 Seven, established them as one of Australia’s most successful combinations in the world of FEI dressage, and confirmed David as one of the leading dressage riders in Australia. This experience, coupled with his acute eye for detail and articulate style means David is in high demand as a coach. David conducts clinics and events throughout Australasia. He enjoys working with all levels of horses and riders and encourages and supports his students to develop as independent, thinking, effective riders.

David’s students’ results speak volumes for his coaching skills. These include a win in the 2021 Marcus Oldham Challenge (previously the Aachen Challenge), multiple dressage Young Horse class success, along with numerous students competing at CDI Grand Prix level and being part of the Equestrian Victoria High Performance Squad.

David is renown amongst his students as being extremely positive, enthusiastic and supportive in his coaching style. Not only has David managed to get a large group of his students to Grand Prix level, he also enjoys giving his time to the lower level group of students (e.g. adult rider level) utilising his clear and concise training structure.
David prides himself on creating a dynamic team spirit amongst his students, supported by his encouraging and motivating style.

David provides a consistent mentoring role to many EA coaches (including his students Jenny Bray, Holly Cutler, Jack Palfreyman amongst many others) and also many of his young rider students.

David has established himself as a premier breeder of sport horses in Australia, and has a focus on breeding top quality sport horses for local riders that will hopefully go on to represent Australia in dressage in the future.
Through COVID lockdown David showed his ability to adapt his coaching practices to manage ongoing coaching constraints, but also allow greater accessibility for students nationwide.
He has also recently been producing and publishing online mini-tutorials/training videos. These videos are free to access and are David’s way of generously sharing his knowledge with the Australian dressage community.
