TIM CALKIN
GENERAL – LEVEL 2
MEET TIM
Tim started his coaching career in the UK achieving his BHSAI in 1973 and then his BHSI in 1985, working in riding schools before going freelance in that same year.
After a short time in Saudi Arabia and travelling between the UK and Australia for 3 years coaching he emigrated to Australia in 1988.
Tim started Braidwood Equestrian Centre in the Yarra Valley in 1992, teaching all ages and levels of riders on two school horses along with riders on their own horses.
Since selling Braidwood a few years ago he has concentrated mainly on teaching at pony clubs and private clinics around Victoria, mainly in dressage and cross country.
Tim is also a Coach Educator and sits on both the Equestrian Victoria Coaching Committee and the Equestrian Australia Coaching Committee in addition to being one of two Australian delegates for the IGEQ.
He is renown for working with young people to develop their basic riding and training skills on a range of different types of horses from young unspoilt horses through to horses with problems.
Whilst modest in personality, his fondness for riders and coaches best described as “square pegs in round holes” has resulted in a wonderful supportive atmosphere, enjoyed and appreciated by all that experience it.

- Level of competition – state, national and/or international
- Contribution to the wider coaching community within their sport - mentoring, etc.
