GARRY BAXTER

MEET GARRY

Garry has been involved in Horses for over 65 years, starting as a very young boy. He loved jumping and went through Pony Club, continuing on to Show Jumping as a young teen.
He was on the first committee for Northern Victorian Show Jumping Club at 15 years of age and was responsible for the development of WB Hunter Reserve becoming what it is today. After 20 years of hard work and commitment to improving Show Jumping in Northern Victoria he became a life member of NVSJC and was the representative on the EV Committee for many years.

He was a World Cup Show Jumping level competitor and represented Victoria in teams events at Sydney Show. He has regularly competed up until recently.

Garry’s business, Baxter Floats, was renown for innovation, strength and safety and he was also the builder of show jumping equipment for over 50 years. Garry was a Course Builder for over 40 years Australia wide and built Australian JRN Show Jumping Championships in an era when most of the competitors are at the top level today. He also built for Tasmanian State Champs and Royal Shows along with assisting with World Cup Show Jumping courses many times.

Garry also sponsored the Young Horse Championships at Melbourne Shows and was a Show Jumping Judge, Jumping Victoria Committee member, and breeder of successful jumping horses.

JUDGING CRITERIA

In considering the award of Lifetime Service an individual should have demonstrated significant, sustained and high quality service contributing to the improvement, quality and accessibility of equestrian sport, Consideration should be given to the following:

  • Length of involvement in the sport
  • Initiatives developed or involved in which contributed to the enhancement of the sport
  • Significant mentoring to share knowledge
  • Time volunteering
  • Demonstrated approachability and integrity
VOTING ELIGIBILITY

You must have been a financial member during the 2020 membership year to be eligible to cast a vote. You are only able to submit ONE voting form per category. The following will be deemed void and will be removed:

 

  • duplicate votes in a category by the same member
  • unfinancial members (as per time period above)
  • invalid or incorrect membership numbers
